I've been a teacher or student of ancient languages for many years; for much of that time I've been both. In this blog I share insights and information to help and encourage new and continuing students of dead languages. If you're interested in learning activities or online lessons in Latin, Middle Egyptian hieroglyphs or Coptic please explore the rest of this site.
As a Classicist and Egyptologist, my focus is on the languages of the Classical and Egyptian civilisations. I'll also cover some general questions, for example:
How hard is it to learn a dead language?
How different is it from learning a modern language?
Do quality learning resources exist and how can you access them if you're not enrolled on a university course?
Will (or should) you learn to write and even speak a dead language, or is it better to focus on reading?
I'd love to hear from anyone who's learning, or is interested in learning, an ancient language and has a topic they would like discussed - please get in touch.
I'll add to this blog when time allows. Please revisit the website to check for new entries - you can look in the resources section for new learning games while you're here. You can also join the mailing list to receive notifications when new material is added to the website, but please keep an eye on your spam folder!
